FSD Frequently Asked Questions
How is FSD designed to support AISD high school students?
FSD is not a dropout recovery program. It identifies at-risk students who may not be successful in a traditional seven-period day and provides a flexible schedule to support them.
What are the criteria to qualify for FSD?
Most students qualify through counselor and/or principal recommendation. Students and parents may also apply directly.
Who is currently enrolling in FSD?
Enrollment is determined case by case, typically involving 11th and 12th graders at risk of not graduating. Students may begin Edgenuity in DAEP and later move into FSD.
Once enrolled, can students return to their home high school?
Students remain enrolled at their home campus and graduate from that campus. After completing their online coursework, they no longer need to attend FSD and may return for graduation. In limited cases, students may be sent back to campus for attendance-related reasons.
What are the academic progression expectations in FSD?
Course timelines are set during the intake meeting with the student’s counselor. Adjustments may be made by the counselor, lead teacher, or Dr. DeLay.
Parents and students participate in an orientation before enrollment. Intake meetings are completed by the student’s alpha-assigned counselor, with orientation information provided by Dr. DeLay.
What happens if an FSD student goes to DAEP?
If a student leaves FSD for DAEP, they do not return to FSD.
Is credit recovery completed through FSD?
No. Students do not enroll in FSD for credit recovery. AHS uses Edgenuity for credit recovery and summer school. FSD may remove or adjust components based on previous progress in other programs.
If a student enters a residential or long-term inpatient program, do they remain in AISD?
Mental health needs may qualify a student for FSD. If a student goes inpatient while in FSD, they may be able to continue Edgenuity if treatment occurs in the afternoon or does not conflict with coursework.
What educational platform is used?
FSD uses Edgenuity, chosen for accessibility, reliability, and documented success. Students can access coursework anywhere with internet.
What are the strengths of Edgenuity?
Edgenuity is easy to follow, straightforward, and provides notes for many classes. It is simple for students, parents, and staff to use, and parents can receive daily or weekly progress updates.
Can students take UIL, AP, or Dual Credit classes while in FSD?
No. FSD enrollment is limited to general courses and does not include athletics, fine arts, performing arts, AP, or Dual Credit classes.
Can students still attend school events?
Yes. Students are encouraged to attend prom, homecoming, games, performances, and other school functions as they are able.
What are the behavioral expectations in FSD?
FSD follows the AHS Student Code of Conduct, including cell phone policies and prohibited items.
What is the daily schedule for FSD?
Class begins: 8:30 a.m.
Breaks: As scheduled by the Lead Teacher
Lunch: 11:43 a.m. – 12:13 p.m.
Class ends: 12:30 p.m.
Will I receive an AHS diploma?
Yes. All FSD students receive an AHS diploma and are encouraged to participate in the graduation ceremony with their home campus.
